Rebirth Dragon Girdle - no remnant.

I rebirthed a Dragon Girdle, wanting to downgrade to the Eternal Belt on one character to use the Dragon Girdle remnant to get to +6 on another character. However, when I rebirth it all I get back are Eternal Belt Shards, and the Dragon Girdle itself. Is there no way to downgrade or get the remnant back?

There is no way to get the remnant back/downgrade the equipment to Eternal.
