3) Commander Stats & Attributes

Commanders have a specialization as well as a regiment size which means that they increase the army size once added. Your army size is determined by your Castle Level, your Commanders and 2 boosts available for Diamonds.

The Regiment Size is determined by the rank:
I = 1.080
II = 1.320
III = 1.800
IV = 3.560
V = 5.000
VI = 7.000
VII = 11.000

There are also 3 basic Attributes:

Prowess will increase the attack of the Regiment. Command increases both Defense and Health of the Regiment. Strategy will improve the Skills of a Commander increasing the effects.

There are also many further Attributes. Attack, Defense and Health are relevant in combats.

There is one important aspect: Each Commander has a Growth rate: It will raise with a higher quality, meaning that you will have a significant better Level 50 Commander if you push him to Golden quality. Update: It does not matter if you level it first or improve the quality first - the attributes will be adjusted with a higher quality.

  • I've messed up already, having all commanders left for later development at my lords level (57) which is obviously great mistake regarding the growth mechanics. Is there a way to reset commander's level?

  • I really wish this was clearer on "Growth". The statement above says you can level them first, and not worry about having the "Improve Quality" higher to have the high Growth Rate.  Alan, you mention you messed up by leaving them at level 1, I assume you were trying to get "Growth" up first before leveling.  Why would you want to reset unless you believe "Growth" is a factor in the highest Status at their highest level?  I took the word "Growth" to mean that you should "Improve Quality" to Rare or Epic at least before you level up your Commander so you can get them to "Grow" more as you advance them through the levels.  That seems logical to me, but here they state in the Update above that it shouldn't matter.  Then what the heck does "Growth" mean?  If you advance to rare/epic/legendary first, that "Growth" rate is higher and I thought you would get better "Growth" throughout the levels.

1) Overview

Commanders are one of the most important part of your development.
- They are used for Battles, Expeditions, Weirwood, Training Grounds, Wall Defense, Gathering
- They have a level which is limited by your Lord Level once they reach level 15. You can level Commanders to 15 even if your Lord Level is lower.
- They have a rank which can be promoted once you have a equipments available, ranks change attributes and unlock specials & skills. Ranks require a certain level.
- They have 4 Specializations which are unlocked when reaching higher ranks: One is active (combat) und three are passive. Passive ones can either be military and usually require a deployment of the Commander or economic, which will be active once the Commander is unlocked. Specializations apply in combats (fighting with an army).
- They have Skill which apply in battles (Training Ground, Weirwood): One is an active special ability which can be actively triggered and three passive ones, which will just happen.
- They have qualities (basic, green for 20 meals, blue for 50, purple for 100, golden for 200): Qualities will increase the boosts (both specials and skills)
- They have a preferred troop type (left bottom corner) which will cause bonuses in formations
- They have a type of attack (Area/Single)

2) Available Commanders

Here you can find a listing of all available Commanders and their Specializations:

Red columns are passive boosts: Building Speed, Research Speed and Training Speed. All of these are very important.

Blue columns is a Material production bonus: The Material which is listed will be increased. Regular materials are 5% -100% bonus, while Gold is halved.

Green columns are global bonuses for the whole army. These boosts are applied if the Commander is deployed to the army. Yellow ones are for specific troop types and work identically but only for the mentioned troops like Bowmen or Spearmen.

On the bottom you can find a reference what an x is meaning: As an example, Russell will provide a 1% bonus on Construction Speed on Basic Quality - which will raise to 2% once he reaches Green, to 4% for Blue, 8% for Purple and even 20% with a Golden quality.

ATT = Attack value
DEF = Defense value
H = Health
Green is for all unit types, yellow for the specified type

Building, Research and Training Speed are very important, so it is useful to focus on these regarding the quality of Commanders. Material boosts are a nice addon, but for most player not really necessary. You should not focus on these.

As most Commanders with general army bonuses are very expensive and can only be purchased for real money, it might be a useful strategy to focus on one unit type and build an army which has a significant higher amount of that unit.

4) General Commander Guidelines

For many people the high complexity of Commanders is overwhelming and they only use the Quick-Buttons. This is a quick & dirty Guide what you should do and how you should focus:

You will need the following Commanders:
TG = Training Grounds, WW = Weirwood

Chris

He is an excellent tank with Construction Speed and you can push him to Purple only with the main storyline quest. His active skill Oathsworn deals a solid amount of damage plus a 3 second stun. You will need Chris both for TG and WW.
Robb Stark

Another very useful tank who stuns with his skill Young Wolfs Trample which stuns even for 5 seconds and deals damage. Another regular TG and WW Commander.
Gorell

Third tank in the front row, also offering a 3 second stun effect. Recovery of might is very fast. Qualifies him for both TG and WW.
Arya Stark

One of the best damage dealers with an immense attack value and the Valar Morghulis skill which also deals high damage. Both TG and WW.
Sansa Stark

The only healer which is mainly used in WW where Commanders need to stay alive for multiple rounds.
Melisandre

Mel is strong damage dealer in WW. She can recover Might very fast and hit 4 targets with her Skill R´hllor´s Mercy.
Soren

Soren is a solid damage dealer for TG.
Sheila

Sheila is also a damage dealer for TG. She is an optional Commander, which is not required

Focus on these Commanders. Sheila is optional as mentioned - see the Training Grounds section about her. You should do the following:

  • Always keep your Lord raising: this should automatically happen, but don´t waste time with useless tasks. The higher your Lord, the higher your Commanders can be.
  • Try to have your Commanders on the level of your Lord. If you gain others, do not promote or level them unless there is a reason (e.g. you need more Commanders to do multiple things parallel)
  • Raise quality of each Commander to Green and then to Blue - Arya and Chris can be obtained via questline, then start with Soren and complete Gorell/Robb/Sansa, you might leave Sheila
  • Focus on your core crew and ideally leave all others level 1

5) Leveling Commanders

Level (Experience):

It's usually not required to level your Commanders with a specific strategy since you should gain enough EXP to always have them on your on own level as long as you do not use more then required..

Recommendations:

- Focus on your main Commanders: Keep them on your own Lord`s level or slightly lower.

- Commanders levels: Experience is gained via fighting (see below), you can also use EXP meals which you will mostly find in Weirwood when Blitzing stages. It makes sense to use them, you might want to keep a small stock. Do not overfeed them: I always try to keep my commanders on the level of my lord and only feed them until they are low on the same level. This ensures that you will not lose EXP. System will always try to max it, but you can adjust and only level to ideally 0% on the most recent level:

You have the following options to gain Experience for your Commander:

Training Grounds

EXP calculation is at this moment only reverse engineered with very little data, so it might be completely wrong:
Level 1-10
Level 11-20
Level 21-30
Level 31-40
Level 41-50
….
22 + 8 / level
+ 10 / level > 10
+ 12 / level > 20
+ 14 / level > 30
+ 16 / level > 40
….
If correct, you receive the specified amount added to the previous one based on the Commander Level.

Level 10 = 102 (8x10+22)
Level 20 = 202 (102 + 10x10)
Level 30 = 322 (202 + 10x12)
Level 40 = 462 (322 + 10x14)

Expeditions

EXP = Current Commander Level x for each Attacker
30 for Level 1
60 for Level 2
100 for Level 3
150 for Level 4

Rank (Equipment):

The rank will unlock and enhance skills plus add more troops to the guards of the Commander. It requires a full item set, a certain level of both Commander and Lord. By clicking the Info Icon on the upper right, you will find out what happens on the next rank. It's always useful to promote your important Commanders as soon as you can.

Quality (Medals):

Medals are required to improve the quality of a commander and can be obtained via Weirwood Elite or with Packs for Premium Commanders. You require a certain amount of medals to unlock or improve:
- 10 medals: Unlock commander
- 20 medals: Improve to green quality
- 50 medals: Improve to blue quality
- 100 medals: Improve to purple quality
- 150 medals: Improve to golden quality

There's an info icon next to improve quality which shows the effect. All effects are also published on the commander list:

6) Farming equipment

It's always useful to have your commanders fully equipped. You can add the equipment within the Commanders screen. It will depend on the Commander level. Some equipments do have minimum levels. If you miss an item, use the Source button to find it and blitz or play the stage. Equipment will require a commander level. A commander needs to be fully equipped to be promoted to a higher rank.

Keep in mind to use Elite stages if you need the medals for a specific Commander when Blitzing for equipment. The items can be found in both versions - Elite is 12 Stamina, while Common is only 6, but you do not get any medals there.

You should try to equip your Commanders and also look for the items which are missing. Equipment will provide significant bonuses.

I have to disagree on Sheila. Her last skill gives a pretty large boost to attack to all commanders. And her active skill does a lot of damage, enough to 1-shot or nearly 1-shot non-bosses in WW.

Also, are you sure about the way the growth stat works?

  • Hi there, I actually verified that aspect and it gets adjusted, will update it now. Thanks for asking.
