Best Free Commanders for the Wall?

When I asked more experienced players which commanders I should place on my wal ldefense, some said that I should just use my strongest commanders,but I wonder of this is really true. It seems that there are 7 free commanders with specializations that strengthen your wall’s defenses. I have 5 of them on my wall. The following stats are for gold level.

Sansa –Fortification Durability Increased by 50%. Also increases bowmen attack and health by 30%.

Shiela –Fortification Attack Increased by 50%. Also increases bowmen attack by 30%.

Kravras –Fortification Defense Increased by 50%. Also increases bowmen attack by 30%.

Mengo – Wall Defense Increased by 50%. Also increases cavalry defense by 30%.

Varys - Fortification Defense Increased by 50%. Also Increases spearmen attack by 30%.

This sixth option is Haley, who also increases wall defense by 50%.

So, here are myquestions:

Do the fortification and wall increases more than make up for the weaker commanders?

Would it be better to have commanders that increase defensive power like Mengo does?

Or, like I was advised, should I just put the best commanders on the wall, like I would use in Weirwood battles?

Thank you for your interesting question. The answer is varied and I don't think my knowledge is qualified enough for a correct one but I will contribute my opinion and hope it helps somehow.

If you focus on wall defence and fortification, yes, as long as those commanders and your lord inside your city, their buffs will be added. I focus on the buff of a specific type of troops, e.g. spear, so I set up those commanders which have more buffs to support my font line when I get attacked.

I have also tried several combinations, but it really depends on your main troups and the individual bonus value of each commander. If you have for e.g. a lot of T4 archers Sansa, Sheila and Kravas are a must have. If you have a large number of T4 infantary I would use Arya and Chris. If you have a large number of T4 cavallery I would use Mengo, Rob Stark and eventually Russell, but this depends on my next question:

If you get attacked by someone, are then only the defense bonus values relevant or also the attack bonus values? I assume that these are only relevant if I attack someone. Please correct me if I am wrong.
