Hey, devs...! training grounds. What did you tweak this time..? I have the counter, my commanders have 1000 mores strength,, defense and attack and we are using the same ones....How can they beat me...? How can a level 59 commander win...? Last week players lost to me. Now a whole slew of newbies can bring me down..? Why did I even bother leveling commanders if its a roll of thew dice, a spin of the wheel..?
  I get you don't want the training grounds to be dominated by the top players and everyone else has to settle for leftovers. But why does newbie get to race through to the top with no loss while I struggle to gain even one spot against inferior opponents..?
   Let them use diamonds for extra turns.
   Ready to quit because of constant tweaking...

It also depends on the quality of the commanders as well if your commanders are fully equiped and ranked up. The formation of the commanders is a major factor. Also see what your defending formation is.
